𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙖𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙘 : one of the questions I get asked the most is about what fabric to use. It’s is said to use the monk cloth, but monk cloth is not easy to find and can be expensive.
Alternatively, we can use any type of fabric as long as it is self healing. This means that once you punch with the needle, making a hole, when you remove the needle the fabric can go back to its original form or almost.
It also depends on the needle you are going to use.
Because I like using chunky yarn, I use the Oxford needles. For the Oxford, I find that hessian and linen work well as an alternative.
𝐇𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 can be a bit harder to punch, but works, is super resistant for rugs and super cheap.
As per 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧 , not all linen will work. You want to be able to see the threads of the fabric, just make a little test punch at the corner of the fabric. Linen is a bit more expensive than the hessian, but not as expensive as monk cloth can be. I love that with linen is also beautiful and allows to work on designs witch the background is not all covered. .
